TNB 4QFY2024 Powering Malaysia’s Future, Investing in the Rakyat
Kuala Lumpur, 28 February 2025 – Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) continues to play a pivotal role in Malaysia’s economic resilience and energy security, delivering strong financial performance while ensuring direct benefits for the rakyat.
Investing in the People
TNB has reaffirmed its commitment to national progress by channeling 60% of its profits back to Malaysians through dividends distributed to government-linked investment companies (GLICs), including Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), Khazanah Nasional Berhad (KNB), Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF), Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (KWAP), and Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH). This ensures financial security for retirees and working Malaysians while contributing to the country’s long-term economic stability.
“Our commitment goes beyond providing electricity – we are lighting up Malaysia’s future,” said TNB Chairman, Tan Sri Abdul Razak Bin Abdul Majid. “As a responsible GLC, our focus is not just on financial sustainability but on reinvesting our success back into the nation – supporting Malaysians through pension funds, economic development, and affordable energy solutions.”
Empowering Rural Communities
A key initiative under TNB’s reinvestment strategy is the Village Street Lighting Programme, which has been brightening rural Malaysia since 2000. To date, over 525,000 street lights have been installed, with an additional 14,210 energy-efficient LED lights added in 2024 under Phase 11, funded through the 12th Malaysia Plan. This program enhances safety, promotes economic activity, and strengthens connectivity in villages, ensuring no community is left behind in the nation’s progress.
Ensuring Affordable, Stable Electricity for All Malaysians
Addressing public concerns about electricity tariffs, TNB reassures Malaysians that its profits do not impact electricity rates, as tariffs are government-regulated. The company’s reinvestments into grid efficiency help maintain affordability and prevent unnecessary cost increases. Additionally, rakyat-focused energy programs such as solar incentives and time-of-use tariffs help lower household electricity bills.
“We understand that Malaysians want fairness and transparency. Our commitment is clear – profits are reinvested into better services, stable tariffs, and long-term energy security,” said TNB President and CEO, Datuk Ir. Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan.
A Future-Ready Energy Sector
TNB’s strong financial performance allows it to reinvest in key areas such as:
• National Infrastructure: Expanding and modernizing the grid for greater efficiency and reliability.
• Renewable Energy: Increasing investments in solar, hydro, and green hydrogen projects.
• Smart Energy Solutions: Empowering consumers with tools to manage electricity usage efficiently.
“When TNB grows, Malaysia prospers. This isn’t just about profits – it’s about ensuring a future where every Malaysian benefits from reliable, sustainable, and fairly priced energy,” added Datuk Ir. Megat Jalaluddin.
Driving Sustainability for Future Generations
TNB remains a leader in Malaysia’s clean energy transition by:
• Expanding renewable energy investments to reduce carbon emissions.
• Enhancing the national grid for better integration of green energy sources.
• Supporting government initiatives like the MADANI green electricity bill subsidy, which benefits 85% of Malaysians, raising awareness on sustainability efforts.
“Sustainability is not just a goal – it’s our responsibility to future generations. TNB is dedicated to making clean energy accessible, affordable, and beneficial to all Malaysians,” said Tan Sri Abdul Razak.
Building a Nation for All
TNB’s mission is to drive national progress while ensuring every Malaysian benefits from its success. Through strategic reinvestments, responsible governance, and a commitment to the rakyat, TNB continues to serve as Malaysia’s trusted energy partner.
“Every light we turn on, every business we empower, every home we energize – this is what nation-building looks like. We are here to serve and brighten Malaysia’s future together,” concluded Datuk Ir. Megat Jalaluddin.
