Tabung Haji Honours 385 ‘Sahabat Maktab’ Volunteers for Their Service During Hajj

MECCA, June 15 – Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has extended its appreciation to 385 “Sahabat Maktab” volunteers for their dedicated service in assisting 31,600 Malaysian pilgrims during the Hajj season 1446H/2025M.

These volunteers, all Malaysian pilgrims themselves, were selected from seven accommodation maktabs (zones) and were honoured at a special appreciation event held at the Tabung Haji Headquarters at Hotel Abraj Janadriyah in Mecca today.

Malaysian Hajj Delegation Chief, Mohd Hisham Harun, praised the contributions of the Sahabat Maktab volunteers, who come from diverse professional backgrounds, for supporting TH’s 632 official staff and ensuring smooth operations, especially during the critical Masyair phase of the pilgrimage.

“Their service and sacrifices are truly meaningful to Tabung Haji. These volunteers were closer to the pilgrims on the ground, deeply understanding their emotions and aspirations.

“Today, we honour their contributions. TH is proud and grateful for the sincere dedication they have shown throughout this Hajj season,” he told reporters.

The Sahabat Maktab programme, launched in 2006, is divided into three main categories:

Sahabat Ibadat TH (religious support),

Sahabat Medik TH (medical support), and

Sahabat TH (general assistance).

The initiative provides an opportunity for skilled pilgrims to assist fellow Malaysians in need throughout their Hajj journey, offering a peer-support model that enhances community care and the overall pilgrimage experience.
