Sales Manager Loses Over RM300,000 to Non-Existent Investment Scam on Facebook
SEREMBAN, June 15 – A sales manager at a private factory in Nilai has suffered losses amounting to RM389,000 after falling victim to a non-existent stock investment scam promoted via Facebook.
Nilai District Police Chief, Supt Abdul Malik Hasim, said the local victim, a man in his late 40s, was first approached on April 19 by an individual offering a high-return investment scheme.
Enticed by the offer, the victim was instructed to download an app called “P3X” on his mobile phone as part of the investment process.
“The victim, interested in the scheme, transferred funds into six different bank accounts provided by the suspect, over nine transactions, totaling RM389,000,” said Abdul Malik in a statement issued on Saturday night.
The victim only realized he had been scammed when the P3X app became inaccessible and he was unable to withdraw the promised profits. He subsequently lodged a police report at 2:50 PM today.
Following the report, police have opened an investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which deals with cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.
Abdul Malik urged the public to verify all investment schemes with the relevant authorities before participating, and to never share banking information with strangers.
