Sabah Plans to Develop Pulau Gaya as a Tourist Attraction – Hajiji

KOTA KINABALU: The state government plans to develop Pulau Gaya into a tourist attraction, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. He said Pulau Gaya has the potential to be a tourist destination, but the presence of squatter settlements on the island has hindered the plan.

“The idea has been around for quite some time, and now the state government is planning to relocate them (squatters) to receive houses that will be built by the government on mainland Sabah.
“Pulau Gaya holds a special history for us, and it’s only five minutes away from this city by boat…we need to seize this opportunity,” he said at the Ramadan Charity Program at Pulau Gaya National School here today.

He mentioned that the Putatan Parliamentary Office under Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Datuk Shahelmey Yahya is also planning to build a health clinic on the island.
“What’s important is that the people here need to continue to maintain unity, safety, and cleanliness,” he said.

Also present was Petagas Assemblyman Datuk Awang Ahmad Sah Awang Sahari, who distributed school aid to 70 students.

Subsequently, Hajiji, along with Awang Ahmad Sah, Shahelmey, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Ariffin Arif, and Director of Sabah Foundation Datuk Ghulam Haidar Bahadar Khan, presented Aidilfitri contributions to the community.
