Sabah Electricity Becomes First Anchor Company in Sabah to Join KUSKOP’s Vendor Development Program

KOTA KINABALU: The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sabah Electricity, marking it as the first anchor company in Sabah to participate in KUSKOP’s Vendor Development Program (PPV).

Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said under the PPV, the ministry provides support grants of up to RM1.2 million to any vendor company that secures a contract or procurement from an anchor company, under the Vendor Innovation Development Program and the Vendor Capacity Development Program.

“As of today, Sabah Electricity has become the 39th company to sign an MoU with KUSKOP.

“This MoU signing is one of the outcomes of the Domestic Look East Policy that I introduced at KUSKOP, aimed at addressing the unique needs of entrepreneurs in Sabah and Sarawak.

“The ministry is also in discussions with Sarawak Energy and hopes they will soon sign this MoU, becoming the 40th company and the first from Sarawak to join KUSKOP’s anchor program,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after officiating the Sabah Electricity Vendor Day 2025 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here today.

Through this MoU, Bumiputera vendors registered with Sabah Electricity are eligible to receive various forms of support, including training guidance, technical development, entrepreneurial advisory services, as well as research and commercialization assistance through the Vendor Capacity Development Program (PPKV) and the Vendor Research and Commercialization Grant (GPPV).

Ewon said that during the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK12) period, seven Bumiputera companies in Sabah serving as vendors to five existing anchor companies received PPKV and GPPV grants from KUSKOP.

“For the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13), KUSKOP targets 120 Bumiputera vendor companies nationwide to benefit from these grants, including 15 companies projected from Sabah,” he added.

He also stated that Sabah Electricity is eligible to receive double tax deduction incentives after being appointed as an anchor company under the PPV.

“KUSKOP remains committed to ensuring that entrepreneurial development in Sabah and Sarawak continues to be strengthened so that local entrepreneurs are competitive, innovative, and capable of penetrating national and regional markets,” he said.

Also present were KUSKOP Secretary-General Dato’ Sri Khairul Dzaimee Daud, Sabah Electricity Chairperson Saadiah Aziz, and senior officials from both KUSKOP and Sabah Electricity.
