People Must Remain Loyal to the King’s Leadership to Ensure National Agenda is Achieved

KUALA LUMPUR – The people must pledge their loyalty to the leadership of His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim based on the principles of the Rukun Negara to ensure the successful implementation of national administrative agendas and the continued prosperity of the country.

In a special sermon held in conjunction with the upcoming Official Birthday of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Monday, the mimbar (pulpit) emphasized the importance of national unity in ensuring that Malaysia continues to develop rapidly with its people living in happiness and harmony.

“Therefore, we must all strive to preserve the peace and unity that has been established and reject any negative efforts that seek to disrupt this harmony.

“May the reign of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim uphold the pledge of the Rukun Negara—belief in God, loyalty to King and country, supremacy of the Constitution, rule of law, and courtesy and morality—deeply embedded in the hearts of all Malaysians,” the sermon stated.

The sermon, titled “Dirgahayu Tuanku: Raja Dikasihi, Negara Diberkati” (Long Live the King: A Beloved Monarch, A Blessed Nation), was prepared by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) and delivered by the Grand Imam of the National Mosque, Ehsan Mohd Hosni, during the Friday prayer broadcast live on TV1 today.

Touching on Malaysia’s system of Constitutional Monarchy and Parliamentary Democracy, the sermon highlighted that this system reflects wisdom in national governance, founded on tradition, law, and Islamic values, proving Malaysia to be a unique and blessed nation.

According to the sermon, Islam holds in high regard leadership that is just and filled with integrity, especially those who show compassion and mercy to all citizens.

In the Malaysian context, the khutbah explained that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong serves as the Head of State and also the Head of Islam for the states of Penang, Melaka, Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan.

“The institution of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is not merely ceremonial but a divine trust from Allah SWT as the head of the nation. The King’s role is based on the concept of Ulil Amri (holder of authority) who must be obeyed as long as his commands do not contradict Islamic law,” the sermon added.

Furthermore, the sermon stressed that the relationship between the people and the monarch in Islam is bound by mutual respect, loyalty, and prayers for one another—principles rooted in Islam which emphasize a harmonious, respectful, and symbiotic relationship for the well-being of both parties.

“This relationship is built on love, justice, and obedience to Allah SWT. Mutual prayers between the ruler and the people reflect a strong bond and connection.

“This aligns with the concept of ukhuwah Islamiah (Islamic brotherhood), which promotes love and cooperation within the Muslim community,” the sermon concluded, underlining the ideal model of ruler-people relations—one of mutual care and shared prayers for collective goodness.
