Ops Cegah program helps reduce industrial and travel accidents
KUALA LUMPUR: The SOCSO Prevention Convention Opening Ceremony held at the World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, marked the launch of Ops Cegah 2026, along with the handover of SOCSO Financial Assistance Grants to institutions and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), following the successful implementation of Ops Cegah 2025.
The Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA), through the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO), is targeting the involvement of 10,000 employers in this programme this year, said Deputy Minister of Human Resources Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan.
He said a total of 7,833 employers were involved in Ops Cegah 2025, with 83 percent of the targeted employers recording a decrease in workplace accidents.
“Overall, the number of accident cases among employers involved recorded a reduction of 33.6 percent for industrial accidents and 16.7 percent for travel accidents.”
“This clearly proves the effectiveness of a focused and systematic preventive intervention approach.”
“This success proves that the Ops Cegah Program has had a real positive impact in efforts to reduce both industrial accidents and travel accidents,” he said.
He added that an analysis of confirmed industrial and travel accident cases nationwide in 2025 compared to 2024 showed an increase of approximately 7.3 percent to 71,405 cases.
He said this situation requires KESUMA and SOCSO to design and implement more structured and effective prevention activities.
“In this regard, SOCSO has set five main strategies for 2026, namely Focused Prevention Approach, 24-Hour PROTECTIVE Prevention, Effective Collaboration, Authentic and Accurate Use of Data, and Innovative Media Promotion.
“These strategies are also in line with the Occupational Safety and Health Master Plan (OSHMP) 2030 and the Malaysian Road Safety Plan 2022–2030,” he added.
Entering its fifth year of implementation, Khairul Firdaus said Ops Cegah 2026 will no longer only focus on increasing employer involvement, but will instead introduce new strategies including more comprehensive employer selection, focused enforcement and more effective road safety advocacy.
To ensure the effectiveness of the prevention ecosystem, KESUMA through SOCSO also announced the distribution of Financial Assistance Grants with an approved allocation of RM3.9 million.
“This allocation will fund the implementation of 646 Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) programs through collaboration with 37 NGOs and institutions,” he said.
At the same event, SOCSO also signed a Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) with Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional Sdn Bhd (MODENAS) and Givi Asia Sdn Bhd for the implementation of safe riding training at the Centre for Applied Prevention in Social Security (CAPSS).
The centre is expected to operate at SOCSO’s National Neuro-Robotics & Cybernics Rehabilitation Centre in Ipoh, Perak.
In addition, the Vision Zero principle and strategic collaboration with related agencies will continue to be strengthened through the continued involvement of the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOH), Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Road Transport Department (JPJ), Malaysian Road Safety Research Institute (MIROS), and the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
