New Smart Parking System to Be Introduced in Kuching City
KUCHING, Oct 29 — A new Smart Parking System will be implemented in Kuching City beginning November 1, 2025, following the appointment of Pay and Go Sdn. Bhd. as the new operator by Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) and Kuching South City Council (MBKS).
The system will undergo a trial phase starting next month and is expected to become fully operational by January 2026.
The appointment marks the end of the previous concession held by Kuching City Parking System Sdn. Bhd., whose contract has expired. The new concession will run for 10 years, with an option for a five-year extension based on performance and mutual agreement.

The Smart Parking System aims to make parking more efficient and user-friendly through several new features, including the Pay and Go mobile app for registration, payment, and time extension; QR code parking notices; license plate recognition cameras for improved enforcement; and payment kiosks for debit card transactions. Users will also receive reminder notifications for expiring or unpaid parking sessions.
According to DBKU and MBKS, parking rates will remain unchanged, including season and reserved parking fees.
The initiative supports Sarawak’s Smart City and Digital Economy agenda, which seeks to enhance service delivery, transparency, and public convenience.
Both councils will collaborate with the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government and the Sarawak Multimedia Authority to ensure a smooth transition during the trial period. Public awareness campaigns will also be conducted to guide motorists on using the new system.
The introduction of the Smart Parking System represents another milestone in Kuching’s transformation into a smarter, cleaner, and more efficient city, reaffirming DBKU and MBKS’s commitment to improving urban services and residents’ daily experiences.
