Mother, daughter detained for alleged involvement in issuing IMM13 cards to foreigners

KOTA KINABALU (July 27): A mother and daughter have been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for alleged involvement in issuing IMM13 cards to foreigners by enforcement officers in Sandakan.

A source said both suspects, in their 30s and 50s, were arrested after giving their statement at the MACC Sandakan Branch Office at around 7pm on Friday.

Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin issued the remand order for seven days, until Aug 2, after an application was made by MACC at the Sandakan Magistrate’s Court on Saturday morning.

“Both mother and daughter were believed to have acted as middlemen in managing the extension of IMM13 pass to refugees from the Philippines who came to seek refuge in Sabah due to the unrest in the early 1970s.

“Preliminary investigations found that the two suspects are believed to have committed the act since 2022 and it involved bribery of RM20,000,” said the source.

Meanwhile, Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest and said the case will be investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

Karunanithy did not rule out more arrests.
