King Departs for State Visit to Saudi Arabia and Bahrain

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 — His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim today departed for Saudi Arabia and Bahrain for a state visit.

A farewell ceremony in conjunction with the state visit took place at the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Base in Subang.

During the ceremony, His Majesty received the Royal Salute from the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment, accompanied by a 21-gun salute and the playing of the national anthem, Negaraku.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof was present to bid farewell to His Majesty.

Also in attendance were Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul; Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan; Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail; Communications Minister Ahmad Fahmi Mohamed Fadzil; Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad; Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar; and several heads of departments.

The state visit to Saudi Arabia marks a historic occasion as it is the first by a Malaysian monarch since the visit by the 7th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the late Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah, in 1984.
