Hajiji announces dissolution of State Legislative Assembly, polls within 60 days
KOTA KINABALU (Oct 6): Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor has announced the dissolution of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (DUN) following much speculation, particularly over the past few weeks.
The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman made the announcement during a meeting with state government elected representatives at Menara Kinabalu here today, paving the way for the 17th Sabah State Election to be held within 60 days.
Hajiji said he sought an audience with Sabah Governor Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman this morning to seek his advice on the dissolution.
“With the gracious consent of Tuan Yang Terutama Tun, the 16th Sabah State Legislative Assembly will be dissolved effective today Monday, 6th October 2025.
“This paves the way for the 17th Sabah State Elections, empowering the people of Sabah to exercise their democratic right to decide who will govern them,” he told a press conference.
Hajiji said that the decision reflects the state government’s firm commitment to democracy and the constitutional process.
“Over the past five years, we have worked tirelessly to bring meaningful change and growth to the state and its people. Through our holistic and inclusive Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya Development Plan, we have set Sabah on a clear path of transformation since taking over the helm of government in September 2020. Guided by its three foundational pillars – first, Agriculture, Industry and Tourism; second, Human Capital and People’s Welfare; and third, Infrastructure Development and Green Sustainability, our Hala Tuju SMJ roadmap has delivered real progress,” he said.
Hajiji stressed that the GRS and PH plus government took bold and responsible steps to address long-standing legacy issues, especially in water and electricity supply and critical infrastructure.
“Concrete actions and major projects are underway to resolve these legacy challenges that have burdened the people for too long. Some initiatives have been completed, while others are progressing steadily toward completion,” he said.
He added that during this term, Sabah has strengthened its economy, attracted new investments to create jobs, expanded educational support, and improved the social well-being of all communities.
“These achievements were possible because of the people’s trust, support, and shared vision for a better Sabah.
“Yet, our work is far from over. New challenges demand bold solutions, and we are ready to lead Sabah into its next chapter. As this term concludes, we seek the people’s renewed mandate to continue the progress we have begun building a stronger, more prosperous, and united Sabah for all. It is my sincere hope that the outcome of the election will strengthen the people’s voice, safeguard stability and security, and ensure continued progress for our beloved Sabah,” he said.
