GRS is not to save leaders, but to save Sabah – Nizam

TAWAU: The Sabah People’s Idea Party (Gagasan Rakyat) insists that the struggle of the Sabah People’s Alliance (GRS) is not to save leaders as claimed by some parties, but rather to fight for the interests of the people and the future of the state.

Gagasan Rakyat Information Chief, Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan said that the establishment and struggle of GRS was born from the awareness of local leaders to ensure that Sabah is governed based on its own standards, rather than being completely dependent on external political will.

“As one of the individuals involved in the formation of GRS, I can say that this struggle is not because of the personal interests of any leader.

“We established GRS because we were aware of taking care of our own home and Sabah,” he said when met at the opening ceremony of the Malaysian Girl Guide Association Sabah Branch House in Tawau District, here, today.

According to him, the spirit of ‘Sabah is my homeland’ which was instilled in the GRS struggle became the main basis for the actions of the leaders who are now with the coalition after leaving the old party.

“We realize that the people of Sabah need leadership that truly understands local needs and challenges.

“That’s why many leaders decided to join GRS, because the basis of our struggle is clear, which is to safeguard the interests of the people and this state,” he said.
