DAP Sarawak calls for 13 key resolutions at Annual Convention 2025

BINTULU, Oct 26 — The Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak has adopted 13 resolutions at its 2025 Annual Convention, calling on the Sarawak Government to take decisive and transparent action on a wide range of issues affecting the people of the state.

The resolutions, passed unanimously during the convention held here on Sunday, were proposed by DAP Sarawak Deputy State Secretary Larry Asap. They cover governance, racial equity, infrastructure, housing, and public accountability.

In a statement, DAP Sarawak said the resolutions reflected the party’s commitment to ensuring fairness, transparency, and better governance for all Sarawakians, regardless of race or background.

Key Resolutions

Among the key resolutions adopted were calls for the State Government to:

  • Recognise third-generation Sarawakians of Chinese, Indian, and other origins as natives of the state under the Interpretation Ordinance.
  • Achieve a more racially balanced civil service, ensuring equal promotion opportunities for all ethnic groups.
  • Effectively address the state’s recurring flood problems and compensate affected victims, including those impacted by the Bintulu flood earlier this year.
  • Conduct an independent and transparent investigation into the accuracy of SESCO’s smart meters, following public complaints over rising electricity bills.
  • Disclose full details of the RM30 billion in loans taken by state-linked companies, including their interest terms, repayment conditions, and intended purposes.
  • Improve the efficiency and accountability of local governments to better resolve community issues and enhance living conditions.
  • Resolve delays in housing project completions and the issuance of individual land titles to assist affected homebuyers.
  • Review the re-categorisation of land that has significantly raised land lease renewal premiums across the state.
  • Introduce reforms in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) by appointing an opposition member as the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman.
  • Cease reliance on off-balance sheet spending through alternative funding mechanisms, which the party said distort actual government expenditure in official budgets.
  • Reassess the viability of the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) project, citing concerns over cost-effectiveness and sustainability.
  • Urge local councils to halt any increase in assessment rates, arguing that the state’s rising revenue should benefit the people.
  • Resolve ongoing water supply issues by upgrading old and leaky water pipes that contribute to costly Non-Revenue Water (NRW) losses and frequent disruptions.

Commitment to the People

DAP Sarawak said these resolutions were intended to ensure that the state’s resources and development initiatives are managed responsibly and equitably for the benefit of all Sarawakians.

“The people deserve transparency and accountability from their government,” the party said, adding that the adopted resolutions would form the basis of its continued engagement with the State Government and public agencies.
